Victorian Jewelry In Style
"During the era name for her, Britain's Queen Victoria had
a great influence on style, especially jewelry fashions. After
her happy marriage to Prince Albert in 1840, she wore
gold and precious stones. In 1861, after Albert's untimely death, Victoria put on only dark stones in simple settings.
As her sadness subsided, she sported pale opals and
moonstones. Later, as her Diamond Jubilee approached,
diamond necklaces were all the rage.
Victorian jewelry included
brooches,
necklaces,
earrings,
bracelets, rings, lockets, and a variety of accessory pieces.
Cameos and colorful enameled brooches were extremely
popular throughout the period. Lockets were also in vogue.
Rubies and sapphires, with large quantities of small stones,
linked together in a simple silver setting were in style as well
as long strands of large, perfectly round, matched pearls.
Although wristwatches were available in the 1850's, they
did not become popular with Victorian ladies until the 1880's.
Victorian jewelry is now a popular collectible. If you
love the look but can't afford the prices, consider some
of jewelry designer
Joanmarie Moccia's heirloom-look creations"
